Short Circuit #2

There’s a little-known intersection in Los Angeles, where jazz and skateboarding meet. Vogue Giambri found that it leads directly to a Costco parking lot where, between tricks, skaters recite poetry.

With a daddy cam, Vogue made a short film -- it’s a jazz film, it’s a poetry film, it’s a skate film.

The concrete looks hot to the touch. And while you’re watching, time evaporates like sweat off the pavement. There’s an unceremoniousness to their tricks, but true intention behind their rhymes.

While filming, Vogue also wrote a companion poem, seen here for the first time:

i didnt think about you today
i didnt leave the house
i didnt spend money
i didnt eat a fruit or vegetable
i didnt cry
i didnt laugh loudly
i didnt read a poem other than my own
i didnt procrastinate like I used to
i didnt learn anything new only about
myself i know im over you already
when will someone else walk through my door
when will the joke be over
when will you go off the deep end
im a very good swimmer youre a very
bad actor but sometimes youre just
right for the part you do tricks all day
and wonder why i cant believe you
when you say you love jazz how many
kickflips you think youve done in all your
life is a comedian the one that goes on when
everyone is leaving let’s share a piece of pie
and feel sick as a dog after in the moonlight
youre not so ugly i hate that not everything
can be done
